How Long Does It Take?

Typical timing: 30 days.

TGL Recruiter tip: Processing estimates change with fingerprint delays, missing documents, and application volume. Confirm the current timeline with the Board before promising a start date — and always start early.

Step-by-Step Licensing Process

✓ Colorado is an eNLC compact state. Nurses holding a multistate license from a compact primary state may practice in Colorado without a separate Colorado license.

Permanent License — Endorsement

  1. Apply online through the Colorado Division of Professions and Occupations online licensing system and pay the $43 fee.
  2. Request license verification via Nursys. Colorado participates fully in Nursys.
  3. Complete a background check — Colorado requires a criminal history check at the time of initial licensure.
  4. Processing typically takes approximately 30 days after all materials are received. Colorado is one of the faster non-provisional compact states.

Temporary License

  1. Colorado issues a temporary permit valid for 30 days while your endorsement is processed.
  2. Request the temporary permit through the same online application — it is issued quickly after receipt of application and fee.
TGL Recruiter tip: Start the licensing process as early as possible — especially for non-compact states, which can take 8–12 weeks. Your TGL recruiter will track your application status and help you time your assignment start date.

Fees

Colorado has one of the lowest endorsement fees at $43. There is no additional charge for the temporary permit. Biennial renewal is $43. Background check fees are separate.

Fees change. Always verify current amounts at the official Colorado Board of Nursing website before applying.

License Renewal

Colorado RN licenses renew every two years. No continuing education is currently required for renewal (verify current requirements). Renewal fee is $43.

Important Notes for Travel Nurses

  • Colorado is a compact (eNLC) state — nurses with a multistate license from a compact home state may practice without endorsement.
  • The very low fee structure makes Colorado one of the most affordable states for endorsement.
  • Processing is generally faster than average — often complete within two to four weeks.
