How Long Does It Take?

Typical timing: 6-8 weeks.

TGL Recruiter tip: Processing estimates change with fingerprint delays, missing documents, and application volume. Confirm the current timeline with the Board before promising a start date — and always start early.

Step-by-Step Licensing Process

ℹ Connecticut is a non-compact state. You must obtain a separate Connecticut RN license to practice there.

Permanent License — Endorsement

  1. Submit your endorsement application through the eLicense Connecticut portal and pay the $165 fee.
  2. Request license verification via Nursys from your original state(s) of licensure.
  3. Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check. Connecticut uses the AFIS system — instructions are included with your application confirmation.
  4. Submit verification of NCLEX passage if required by the Board.
  5. Processing typically takes 6–8 weeks after all required materials are received.

Temporary License

  1. Connecticut offers a temporary permit while your endorsement is under review.
  2. Request the temporary permit through the eLicense portal when submitting your endorsement application.
  3. Temporary permits allow you to work for up to 90 days pending permanent licensure.
TGL Recruiter tip: Start the licensing process as early as possible — especially for non-compact states, which can take 8–12 weeks. Your TGL recruiter will track your application status and help you time your assignment start date.

Fees

Endorsement fee is $165. Temporary permit is included at no additional cost. Biennial renewal fee is $100. Background check fees are additional.

Fees change. Always verify current amounts at the official Connecticut Board of Nursing website before applying.

License Renewal

Connecticut RN licenses renew biennially. Renewal requires no continuing education hours (verify current requirements). Renewal fee is $100.

Important Notes for Travel Nurses

  • Connecticut is a non-compact state — a separate Connecticut license is required regardless of home state.
  • The eLicense portal tracks your application status online; check it regularly rather than contacting the Board.
  • Connecticut processes applications in the order received; processing can slow during high-volume periods.
