How Long Does It Take?
Typical timing: 30-60 days.
TGL Recruiter tip: Processing estimates change with fingerprint delays, missing documents, and application volume. Confirm the current timeline with the Board before promising a start date — and always start early.
Step-by-Step Licensing Process
✓ Georgia is an eNLC compact state. Nurses holding a multistate license from a compact primary state may practice in Georgia without a separate license.
Permanent License — Endorsement
- Apply online through the Georgia Secretary of State licensing portal and pay the $75 fee.
- Request license verification via Nursys from your original state(s) of licensure.
- Submit fingerprints for a background check through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) — use a Georgia Applicant Processing Services (GAPS) location.
- Allow 30–60 days for processing after all materials are received.
Temporary License
- Georgia offers a temporary permit while your endorsement is under review.
- Request the temporary permit with your endorsement application — it is issued upon receipt of a complete application.
- The temporary permit is valid for 90 days.
TGL Recruiter tip: Start the licensing process as early as possible — especially for non-compact states, which can take 8–12 weeks. Your TGL recruiter will track your application status and help you time your assignment start date.
Fees
Endorsement fee is $75. Temporary permit is included at no additional cost. Biennial renewal is $75. GBI background check fees are additional, typically around $30.
Fees change. Always verify current amounts at the official Georgia Board of Nursing website before applying.
License Renewal
Georgia RN licenses renew biennially. No continuing education is required (verify current requirements). Renewal fee is $75.
Important Notes for Travel Nurses
- Georgia is a compact (eNLC) state — nurses with a multistate license from a compact home state may practice without endorsement.
- The Secretary of State portal allows online license verification — facilities in Georgia often check licenses before the start date.
- GAPS fingerprinting locations vary by county — schedule your appointment early.
