How Long Does It Take?
Typical timing: 2-4 weeks.
TGL Recruiter tip: Processing estimates change with fingerprint delays, missing documents, and application volume. Confirm the current timeline with the Board before promising a start date — and always start early.
Step-by-Step Licensing Process
✓ Idaho is an eNLC compact state. Nurses with a multistate license from a compact primary state may practice in Idaho without a separate license.
Permanent License — Endorsement
- Apply online through the Idaho Board of Nursing portal and pay the $90 fee.
- Request license verification via Nursys. Idaho participates in Nursys.
- Submit fingerprints for a background check — Idaho uses the Idaho State Police (ISP) for in-state applicants and FBI hard-cards for out-of-state.
- Processing is typically 2–4 weeks — Idaho is among the faster compact states.
Temporary License
- Idaho offers a temporary permit valid for 90 days while your endorsement is processed.
- Request the temporary permit alongside your endorsement application.
TGL Recruiter tip: Start the licensing process as early as possible — especially for non-compact states, which can take 8–12 weeks. Your TGL recruiter will track your application status and help you time your assignment start date.
Fees
Endorsement fee is $90. Temporary permit is included. Biennial renewal is $90. Background check fees are separate, typically $20–$30.
Fees change. Always verify current amounts at the official Idaho Board of Nursing website before applying.
License Renewal
Idaho RN licenses renew every two years. No continuing education is required (verify current requirements). Renewal fee is $90.
Important Notes for Travel Nurses
- Idaho is a compact (eNLC) state — nurses with a multistate license from a compact home state may practice without endorsement.
- Idaho's processing is fast relative to other states — licenses are often issued within two to three weeks.
- The Board's online portal provides real-time application status updates.
