Typical timing: 4-5 weeks.
TGL Recruiter tip: Processing estimates change with fingerprint delays, missing documents, and application volume. Confirm the current timeline with the Board before promising a start date — and always start early.
Step-by-Step Licensing Process
✓ Nebraska is an eNLC compact state. Nurses holding a multistate license from a compact primary state may practice in Nebraska without a separate license.
Permanent License — Endorsement
- Apply online through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services licensing portal and pay the $123 fee.
- Request license verification via Nursys. Nebraska participates in Nursys.
- Submit fingerprints for a background check through the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP). Out-of-state applicants may use an authorized FBI provider.
- Processing typically takes 4–5 weeks for permanent licenses.
Temporary License
- Nebraska issues a temporary authorization valid for 90 days while your endorsement application is processed.
- The temporary authorization is issued quickly after receipt of a complete application and fee.
- You may begin working once the temporary authorization is in the DHHS system — verify it is visible before your start date.
TGL Recruiter tip: Start the licensing process as early as possible — especially for non-compact states, which can take 8–12 weeks. Your TGL recruiter will track your application status and help you time your assignment start date.
Fees
Endorsement fee is $123. Temporary authorization is included. Biennial renewal is $123. Background check fees are additional, typically $20–$40.
Fees change. Always verify current amounts at the official Nebraska Board of Nursing website before applying.
License Renewal
Nebraska RN licenses renew biennially on the nurse's birth month. Renewal requires no continuing education (verify current requirements). Renewal fee is $123.
Important Notes for Travel Nurses
